40th ‘birthday’ of MIDANZ

Today marks the 40th ‘birthday’ of MIDANZ (a derivative of MIDAS) being implemented into ANZ Bank in New York.  MIDANZ is a foreign exchange operations system and was installed in over 25 countries by ANZ.  Today, 40 years later it is still being used by ANZ Bank in over 50 sites in 18 countries.

In Melbourne, Australia tonight around 70 past and present developers and analysts that have worked on MIDANZ are gathering for a celebration.

It is quite outstanding that this piece of software has lasted through all the technology advances – but a key to any good system is reliability.  MIDANZ now has only a small team of people looking after it and must also be one of the cheapest systems that ANZ has.
